Variants:
The Kodiak III, also known as the “Iron Bear”, is a recently developed derivation of the
original Kodiak BattleMech, which is quickly making a name for itself on the battlefields of
the 32nd century. Replacing the original endo-steel framework and standard armor plate with
a reinforced internal structure and full load of ferro-lamellar armor has made the design
incredibly resilient, and able to take far more damage than before. To accommodate these
changes, the original extralight engine had to be replaced with a type 300 model, slowing
the design to a maximum of 54 kph. Additionally, more than 25 percent of the original
design’s double heat sinks had to be removed. Knowing of these changes, it was aLos
decided to change the original model’s weapons. The Streak missile launchers have been
removed and replaced with a single Advanced Tactical Missile launcher capable of firing 12
missiles at one time, which is fed by a three ton missile bay. The autocannon was replaced
with a mid-grade Hyper-velocity Gauss Rifle fed by 4 tons of munitions. And finally, the old
extended-range large laser was replaced by an extended-range particle cannon that hits
harder at almost the same range. Additionally, the original arm-mounted extended-range
medium lasers have been replaced by an equal number of small laser models. To make room in
the center torso for both the particle cannon and the one double heat sinks that could not
be mounted in the new fusion core, an Inner Sphere-designed compact gyro was installed,
which also helps improve the machine’s survivability. Finally, an ECM suite was mounted in
the head to help conceal the BattleMech on the battlefield.
