This isn´t a good variant. It gains some little crit seeking firepower but looses a ton of the already low armor-protection.

Not too different form 9A1. It doesn't have the MGs to deal with infantry, but it has a bigger SRM rack instead. Not that good upgrade and it loses if compared to 9B. No, not the 'Mech I would like to field. Just average...

Its always a bad idea for a short ranged design to trade off armour for more short ranged guns.

Take the original and close the range and you'll do a better job.

I prefer the 9B, the sacrifice of armor for increased SRM is not worth the loss in survivability. And you can generate even more heat, YAY! Lets alpha a few times and blow ourselves up.

Im not sure that reducing the armor in favor of a bigger SRM launcher is all that great of a trade-off. While the in close damage is increased, you have to balance that against the fact that youre not going to be able to stay at close range for very long before your armor starts to fall off.
