Overview:
Owned by the same family since walking out of the Corean factor on Stewart, the Trebuchet
named Gabriel has served House Marik since the brief period between the Second and Third
Succession Wars.
Currently piloted by Mikaela Szabo-Nguyen, this machine is a well scared but lovingly
maintained machine. The family has spent decades hording parts Trebuchet parts and
components. The family name was hyphenated when the second Mechwarrior Szabo married a
Corean technician who was the daughter of the Stewart factory's then CFO. Since then, the
family's agricultural and light industrial land holdings have sent their best students to
Stewart to work in that factory. After a decade, some contract out to various mercinary
units, but many come home where they keep the local machinery running. Including Gabriel.
Having a stable of factory-trained technicians has provided the land holdings with a side
business of repairing damaged mechs, especially Trebuchets. So when Gabriel undergoes a ten
year overhaul or repairs after sustaining major damage, it is usually done at home in a yard
that overlooks crops and herds with mountains at the horizon, with the ocean and fisheries a
half day's jog away, to make sure that everything is broken in. So when Gabriel lost both
legs and an arm sixty years ago, like the Szabo-Nguyen of the day it went home to recover.
Seeing the opportunity, there was conference between pilot, heir, and the technical staff.
The lasers were fine, and the torso mounted LRM-15 was mechanically fine, the reason their
mech was crippled (for the moment) due to the lack of endurance which has plagued the
Trebuchet since it's earliest days. They reached out to Zeus with a proposal for a ten-tube
launcher. Gabriel carried the prototype Zeus 10, and it would eventually be replaced with a
production unit when lost in battle. This allows for an extra ton of armour, and a second
ton of
ammunition for the LRM-15. This results in 16 salvos, with 12 for the LRM-10.
Transferring from her father, Miguel, it when he shifted to staff work, Mikaela Szabo-Nguyen
has piloted Gabriel through multiple engagements. It is partnered with her
younger-by-minutes twin sister Daniela and the family's recently captured and rebuilt
Centurion, Sariel. Despite being identical discipline problems, they've survived
several engagements where the rest of their lance did not return. In their most recent
battle, their company and a battalion of mechanized infantry were chopped up during a raid.
They were able to destroy the enemy's ammunition reloads, then rally their comrades. Using
hand signals and flares to communicate despite heavy jamming, they were
able to organize a fall back to the dropships for evacuation. Despite their rewards for
valor, they were also disciplined for ordering the abandonment of the very goods that were
the raid's objective and inflicting unneeded collateral damage.
Currently assigned to the regiment's recon lance, Mechwarrior Szabo-Nguyen and Gabriel are
currently demonstrating that the Trebuchet can be a heavy scout.
It should be noted that the Szabo-Nguyen family's Centurion, Sariel, was captured from
Davion forces as salvage. Rebuilt using FWL-made weapons to simplify maintenance, the AC/10
was replaced by a Magna Large Laser. This frees up enough weight to use the Magna 250 and a
Stewart made Corean gyro. This allows Sariel to be as fast as Gabriel, and lets the two
Corean made mechs use the same parts. And yes, Daniela Szabo-Nguyen and Sariel are assigned
to the same lance as Mikaela and Gabriel)
