And yet another 'Mech that has taken the XL bait. Somebody has thrown in a fancy new engine and then didn't know what to do with it. As a result there are many little upgrades that in the end don't do that much. You could have taken the old ON1-K and thrown in the new AC, shaved off some armour to get CASE and Artemis IV. FF armour could have taken care of that. Instead we have a bigger LRM, more unneeded SRM ammo and Narc. Sure, the Orion is a close range brawler that will paste the Narc pods in the end, but was it really worth the extra 9 millions? Really? I could have TWO Orions for that with the same abilities. |

Not really a bad upgrade but one with some oversights!
Depending the narc i´ve the same opinion as ralgith here especially as this Orion hasn´t much SRM´s to benefit from it and the LRM would be much too close while a narc beacon hits!
The second ton of SRM-ammo and the 11th DHS is useless too and should be replaced by some other stuff (what about replacing the Narc and SRM-4 by two SRM-6? Streak-4´s weren´t invented yet.).
The overall weaponloadout is very ammo-dependant as was that of the original but is sufficient.
The heavy armor outweights the XL somewhat. |

The reviews on this one are mixed, so now I add my 2 cents. The basic concept here is good, but some things are just a waste. Like the NARC. I've never seen the point of putting a NARC launcher on the same machine as the LRM racks. NARC systems belong on a fast medium or light so they can rush in, drop a NARC pod on the target, and rush out while the guys 20 hexes away start unloading with their LRMs. Also dropping the SRM ammo to 1 ton and making it a Streak system would be far better. |

Take the most dependable and useful and survivable chassis in the IS. Add a vulnerable engine and no real knock out punch.
Marik has good ideas and lots of money ideas. This falls into the second category. For the amount of heat sinks it has you'd expect more energy weapons to use them.
Just doesn't turn my crank. Its average where it used to be much better. |

A nice upgrade to a classic mech.
Again, you see a missile array coupled with the Narc system. I think that the Narc is meant to enhance the SRMs rather than the LRMs on this beast, but you can go either way with it.
A word on the LBX. Cluster. Load one ton of amo with standard shot, and the other with cluster ammo. Using LRMs, SRMs and cluster ammo will give you a higher chance of striking a critical hit.
Best use for this is to rain ordinance on a target, weakening the targets overall armor. Then move in to carve up the carcass with your lasers. |
