A really bad upgrade. Swapping the PPC for an unreliable and ammo consuming UAC/5 would not help here and now it has a XL but still this weakly armored side torsos. Rip out that XL , the UAC and that single heat sinks to get a standard engine, an ER-PPC, 10 DHS´s and a ton of armor (and maybe change it to FF). The only two advantages are the LB10-X and the JJ´s. |

Bad upgrade, honestly we can ditch those single strength heatsinks. I mean even House Liao (of all Great Houses) can afford to put DHS into their Cataphract, and House Davion being one of the most wealthy, can't afford to do that.
Firepower is unreliable now and mech is reduced to ammo addict territory, the loss of the PPC isn't simply worth it, and neither is the jumpjets. Especially considering that it mounts an XL engine.
Even worse than the House Liao variant. |

The Davions should have stopped when they replaced the standard AC with the LB gun. I can live with the XL engine and the JJs may be handy, but generally when I install XL I either expect a NOTICEABLE increase in firepower or an improvement in firepower and armour. The CTF-3D fails to achieve anything, so I must rate the 'Mech as a downgrade. With this weapons mix there is no need for freezer installation, but I also fail to see the reason keep all those extra heat sinks. Firing the lasers while jumping? Are you serious? |

In addition to problems others have already noted, the weapons placement is terrible. Half the lasers face backwards and the big autocannon's ammo is in the opposite torso. This mech isn't so slow that it needs rear facing weapons, and it has the heatsinks (single for some reason) to fire all weapons at once.
It's not total garbage, but it could have been so much better. It's typical of 3050 refits; just shove some newtech onto an old mech and: voila! An "upgrade". |

Dunno what Davion designers were thinking, but they took what to me was a mediocre design... and trashed it. Oh well, even if I am pro-FedSuns not everything they make is good. Drop the UAC/5 for an ERPPC and more of other stuff. |
