Overview:
After the second secession war, the Praetorian started as a refitted fter the Second
Secession War, the Praetorian began life as a refitted CN9‑AL—rebuilt from an aging,
battered CN9‑A that had already seen far more combat than its frame was ever meant to
endure. Pieced together from whatever components could be scavenged, the machine nonetheless
proved stubbornly reliable. It served for nearly a century and a half before finally falling
on an unrecorded battlefield during the Third Secession War.
Salvagers recovered what remained, but with parts scarce and priorities elsewhere, the wreck
was relegated to long-term storage. For decades it sat forgotten in a warehouse, stripped
and cataloged, traded between minor houses and supply brokers who saw only scrap metal and
dwindling inventory.
Eventually, the remnants found their way into the hands of a mercenary MechWarrior—someone
with an eye for potential buried beneath rust and ruin. Where others saw junk, they saw the
bones of a machine worth resurrecting.
Capabilities:
The Praetorian is optimized for medium‑ to close‑range combat. Its original LRM‑10
launcher—standard across the Centurion line—is removed entirely. In its place, engineers
mount a 4‑ton hatchet on the left arm, giving the chassis a brutal melee option. To
reinforce its short‑range punch, a third Photech 806c medium laser is installed in the
left torso, complementing the pair already fixed in the center torso.
To manage the increased heat load from the expanded energy suite, the Praetorian’s cooling
system is upgraded from the CN9‑AL’s already impressive sixteen heat sinks to a total of
eighteen, allowing the pilot to sustain higher output during prolonged close‑quarters
engagements.
Deployment:
The Praetorian preserves the trademark speed of the CN9 series while significantly
reinforcing the CN9‑AL’s armor protection. Its Defiance B3L large laser gives the
’Mech a reliable medium‑range punch, ideal for softening up targets as it advances. Once
it closes the distance, the Praetorian brings its trio of Photech 806c medium lasers to
bear, stripping armor with practiced efficiency and setting up the kill.
That finishing blow comes from the 4‑ton hatchet mounted on the left arm—a brutal melee
weapon capable of delivering damage comparable to a PPC strike. Against light and medium
’Mechs, a single swing is often enough to cripple or outright destroy, making the
Praetorian a fearsome brawler once it gets in close.
