Kintaro lost a vital high tech part of it's arsenal and nobody's missing it... why am I not surprised? Narc tends to be an unpopular weapon anywhere and the Kintaro really needed some big gun to be really scary. With the large laser (and DHSs) came an upgrade that turned Kintaro to a formidable fighting force that doesn't have to leave once the missiles are expended. If I wanted the Narc Back I would certainly leave the laser in place, remove the LRMs and downgrade SRMs to 4 packs. Perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to Get an ER LL and additional DHS instead of the LRM launcher, but that all would probably fall to 3055 and beyond. A very potent medium in Kuritan arsenal. |

This variant has a real main weapon now! Together with its strong shortrange firepower and the heavy armor it is a good and dependable linemech. The DHS´s solve most of the heatproblems of the older models even with this large laser. |

A much better variation of the Kintaro, but still nothing to jump up and down and write home about. The large laser is a nice improvement over the narc, but the LRM-5 is still garbage. |

Giving up the Narc launcher was the best thing the Kintaro design has had happen to it. The Large laser as a replacement is okay.
Personally at range I know the Kintaro is going to be sub par, but now in close it has one more weapon to throw at you every 2/3rd of the time. Which can be a decisive diffence in a slug fest.
Best the Kintaro can get at this point of the time line. |

Dropping the NARC for the large laser allows you some more flexibility with this 'mech, and lets it operate independently of the missile support lances. With the large laser to provide some range I'd scrap the LRM-5s and mount Artemis IV, but I can understand why Comstar wouldn't go handing Artemis modules freely to the Draconis Combine in the 3030s. |
