A reprint of TRO 3050 specifically upgrades fixes the printing error, now this baby carries DHS. For its time, this is a solid line design, standard engine, relatively well armored and has the JJs to move around.
The bad news is the lack of case. A personal refit of mine is FF armor, CASE, a streak SRM6 and a c3 slave unit for later era gaming. Although I can easily retrofit the base chassis here. |

Another victim of RS 3050 printing errors. needless to say that they incorporated them in TRO 3050 revised rather than releasing revised Record sheets, which damned the BJ-2 to be a horrid example of overheating because of poor designing errors. Fortunately the mistake was corrected in TRO 3050 upgrades, so the BJ-2 has double heat sinks officially now and I'll include that in my rating.
The BJ-2 Blackjack now has the heat dissipation capacity to handle all it's lasers in typical 2-1 pattern often seen with Marauders while moving and it can make it 2-2-1 while standing still. While jump-capable the Blackjack is still slow, but well armored for it's size, so it's ideal for defensive operation or as an escort for heavier 'Mechs needing some ranged backup. Two ER large lasers pack quite a punch for a 3050 medium and streak SRMs can offer some crit. seeking ability for things already mauled by the lasers. It's funny to see how the damage potential reversed since the old BJ models were upgraded. They had small damage groups at long range while the lasers provided real punch at shorter ranges. The BJ-2 reversed that and I must say that it is an improvement. I think that it would be a good partner for Hunchback (not the botched 3050 model!). Great 'Mech! |

If you look at firepower, armor and movement, its not bad but it runs much to hot. It´s not able to fire 1 of it´s 2 Mainweapons without getting heat!
(In the TRO 3050 it is listed with 11 DHS. In RS 3050 the DHS vanished!) |

This 'mech is actually kind of funny.
I can imagine some hotshot 'mech jock who can't wait to try out his "new and improved" Blackjack letting loose with his twin lasers in the opening seconds of combat and shuting down then and there.
Downgrading to standard Large Lasers would help here, then you can at least salvo fire and have a reasonable heat curve to ride. |

On an ice world rejoice getting this mech for your ride. Every where else curse your supply officer.
It can only fire a third of its weapons at one time. Personally I like it if you put Chillers in, but even then it runs hot.
But the damage potential is worth it. Someone got most of the way to an intelligent though designing this mech. Which is more than I can say for some Cannon designs. |
