I'm not sure whether the Viper needs another 'general purpose' configuration. If compared to prime the D gained some long range firepower in exchange for accuracy and AP weapons. It wasn't that bad under old rules, but now it lost it's edge, so, away with this. Not worth the effort IMO. |

While I agree that this is a confusing mech to add to a star, I personally think it's the ultimate finesse mech.
When it's just starting in a fight using it's LRMs to chip away armour it's ignored in favor of the heavy/assault mechs. Then it closes to range and starts jumping around like a jack-rabbit. Finally it pours fire into rear armour of heavier mechs with a passion usually reserved for lovers in heat. ER Medium Lasers at close range into rear armour tends to get anyone's attention.
For me it's all about superior heat efficiency. You can do a full jump and fire all your lasers and your Streak producing only minimal heat, no heat if you don't get the Streak to fire. Yes the A variant does more damage but heat build-up tends to be problematic in extended barrages.
Truly this is an under-rated mech. |

I can't see a lot of uses for this particular Viper. Its more of a filler mech in this configeration when your not sure what you'll really need in your light/medium star. |

While the LRM-5 rack is more of an annoyance than anything, it does serve to ping down an opponent until you close, and if you still have ammo once in close it has no minimum range so is usable there too. |

This mech lacks a definite purpose. The LRMs arent big enough to make this a barrage mech while the Streaks alone cant keep the mech lethal in a close fight. Still, this mech might find use as a filler mech, in a light to medium star. |
