I don't like this It has tremendous firepower at very long ranges and still has that insane amount of armor, but it has some flaws that could hardly be tolerated: They put in an expensive XL but in turn they could have converted the 20 single heat sinks to double to get the same tonnage free (even 0.5 tons more). The ER lasers run too hot too. Better take a standard engine, double heat sinks, rip out the AMS and then put in two more sinks. The CASE and rear firing pulse lasers are a good idea though: even if you keep the XL a CASE will prevent you from loosing the whole 22.5 mio Mech instead of having it only incapacitated. The pulse lasers will help you to keep annoying nasty backbiters away from your butt. |

I'm more wishy washy on this one. It is a good design, but they did it wrong. If you're going with the XL, then ALSO go with the DHS and pack in MORE weaponry.
If you don't want the XL... then just swap for DHS and have the same darn mech. Wait, didn't someone else mention that??? :D
Normally this would get a 3.5, but since they malfed it so bad it lost a point. |

Not too bad but not too stellar either, we can lose all that weight in single heatsinks for doubles. While the Gauss and LRMs are nice paired together, those lasers will drive up your heat badly. A quick mod would be people using regular large lasers instead of ER large lasers. Kinda like the panther mod where everyone just drops the ERPPC for the old style PPC because ER runs too hot !
Medium pulse lasers are nice as rear protection, but I would prefer mediums due to the reach. |

This is an upgrade? They leave the same amount of SINGLE heat sinks, add heat-intense ER L. Lasers, throw in an expensive and vulnerable XL engine, and top it off with the near useless Inner Sphere AMS. All that does is make this mech barely better than the old 3025 Atlas, but with nearly triple the cost!
Get rid of the XL engine, change the heat sinks to double, and swap the AMS for more sinks and you have a very solid mech. |

This Atlas runs way too hot; downgrading to stardard Large Lasers would help. I'm not a big fan of the XL engine either; it essentially cuts this 'mech's battlefield life in half. |
