It's something between a Wyvern and a Phoenix Hawk. The speed marks it as a good scout killer, although catching some of the speed demons is still beyond it's capabilities. The large laser backed by the LRMs should be enough to deal with enemy lights and the armour can keep it safe for a while (for typical scouts it's nigh impregnable), but the problem starts when something with real armament comes around. The guns aren't as good against heavier 'Mechs as they are against scouts and the ammo load is also pretty light. The SHK-1E has to rely on speed and armour to carry it through the fight and with XL engine you shouldn't hesitate to retreat when serious opposition appears. The LRMs can sting, but the laser lacks the range to prevent the enemy from returning fire with far more damage. Some more JJs would be fine and short range weapons could also use an upgrade, but I wouldn't touch the EW suite. Use as intended and probably it will do fine, but the 'Mech certainly isn't good for every situation. |

Certainly a decent design but I would prefer dropping the small for another jumpjet.
Although beam weapons look awfully short ranged, this is no flaw for a EW and Solaris design. Solaris matches tend to be extremely short ranged affairs so more heat efficient weapons over ERs can be used. So I won't grade it low. Also the low heat generation is also great for Solaris duels.
In all a fine little mech. |
