Question: Compared with the WLF-2, just what does this 'mech get for its light engine and endo steel frame?
Answer: Not much.
Its no faster. The armor is identical. It gets one additional heat sink, which eats most of the ton and a half shaved off by the endo steel. The ECM eats up the rest of that space, and necessitates the loss of one of the medium lasers besides. The only thing left is the targeting computer.
So, in exchange for two tons of space for the targeting computer, this 'mech makes itself more vulnerable to incoming fire by mounting a light engine.
Now, the endo steel frame makes sense...all gain, no pain there, except for the cost, (which goes from 3.1 million for the WLF-2 to 4.7 for this version). I'm a little dubious of the need for an extra heat sink...the Wolfhound doesn't carry ammo, so no need to worry about cooking off. The ECM pod is a nice touch for breaking up C3 groups, so it might be worth a laser. I'm just not sold on the light engine though. |

Ok i can't find a way to fault this design.
Good backstory, common sense gear and almost no heat even with alpha strike AND running. You cannot even overheat when walking with full alphas on which means the damage dealt up close is gonna be impressive and freaking accurate.
The TC and ECM combo is wicked. Forces like Kurita c3 missile boats get screwed over while Davion TC snipers can never ever get a good lock while you can still shoot back with impressive accuracy.
Nice ! |

Nice upgrade. The 3S produced a lot of heat, but it was still usable. This is downright wicked. ECM won't make happy any missile boats with Artemis FC systems and Kurita C3 lances will also hate it. The targeting computer makes it accurate, so it will hit even while performing evasive maneuvers (okay, it will just run around, but it sound better). Overheating the 'Mech seriously in battle isn't easy, unless the engine is hit, armor is full, weapons above average for it's size, nice supporting story. So, to rating... |

God example of why the old tech can be effective if used right.
The heat is practically non-existent.. 1 heat for running and firing everything is very comfortable thank you.
It moves at a decent clip, has heavy armour and is accurate to boot.
Its not heavily armed for its time, but decent enough. |
