A good and durable medium. Enough long-range firepower to be a threat and sufficient, ammo-independant short-range weaponry if the enemy closes. A bit slow for 40 tons but the JJ´s give you the needed mobility. A workhorse-Mech and surely no scout! |

*glee* This is a nice little fir support machine, pure and simple. I've watched qiute a few much more expensive machines fall prey to well piloted "Tin Woodsmen". You've got duel LRM/10s for fire support, and 3 medium lasers for backup. Good power at either range. Plenty of ammo and armor ensure a long battlefield life.
To this day, I've never had a Whitworth destroyed by ammo explosion, though I've had a few who dumped the ammo to make sure of it. I've seen Whitworths reduced down to walking torso and head, and still they kept fighting. Putting down a Whitworth takes time and effort, which is why I like it. It is a machine that is constantly underestimated, and causes otherwise good players problems because of it. Even I was guilty of it in the past.
Of course, anecdote time...I'll never forget the guy who taught me to play. He loved the Catapult CPLT-C1 but hated this thing. To this day, I find that an interesting look into his mental set.
All fun aside, the 'Mech does have some problems...no hands for physical attacks, ammo in both explosive torsos, and somewhat blah speed. If you keep in mind its normal support role, none of that really matters though. |

It's a decent design. Not fast, but two LRM 10s, thick armor and strong laser backup make the mech ideal for fire support duty. The mech reminds me of the Catapult. Aside from the general durability of the mech it doesn't seem to age. I think that WTH-1 is actually much better than 3050 variant, because it doesn't use fancy technologies and keeps the mech working no matter what. Only a few mechs can match the durability of this mech, because it may work with almost anything that it can keep pace with without loosing it's effectiveness (be careful when trying to fight heavies, this mech lacks knockout punch provided by heavier weapons). |

Missile Fire support from a really light Mech. And it can defend itself or finish off a Mech with the 3 MLs.
Due to it's speed many times it is out of position, either to be blasted or not give good support. Reason is as a lighter Mech it does not have speed to cover or fend off ligths, but not fast enough to run away from Heavies and Assaults.
Decent dueling Mech, but really a Lance support Mech.

Too slow for 40 tons.
BUT....
Remember what it ws designed for and use it that way and it will work fine. Use it any other way and you...will...
Die! A horrible , painful, lingering slow (since you can't outrun the enemy now) death. |
