The 3025 Kintaro has good speed, almost full armor and heavy short range firepower. That tiny bit of long range weapon is for harassing only and too light to do serious damage. The lack of a real long range weapon isn´t such of a problem because 5/8 is fast for a 3025 mech but it suffers a lot from overheating. Using it´s arsenal calls for ammo explosions quickly. To solve this partly you can replace the LRM-5 and one SRM-6 by a LRM-10 plus a ton of ammo and a heatsink or replace the LRM-5 by 3 heatsinks. |

This mech packs some serious short range punch, but as Daphne Wilde already mentioned, it would use some JJs (I would drop the LRMs if they weren't in every variant of this mech) Maybe that trying something like the DC Kintaro from 3050 TRO won't be a bad idea (installing a LL). It has a good armor, but heat is the real limiting factor, so strike and evade would be probably the best mantra for this machine. Good for finishing of the running opponents that were mauled in previous battle. I can imagine a few of these bastards circling the enemy and waiting for any units returning to base for repairs and ammo (not that any reinforcement would be glad to be ambushed...). It's a specialized machine, but it can find it's use in combat (similar to HBKs). |

The Kintaro was never a great design- this is not a good reworking. It needs to get within 9 hexes to use it's firepower- within 6 to really hit anything- and at 5/8/0 that might be difficult. Once there, it overheats immediately- it can't even fire off the SRM's without going over, much less the lasers. It has good armor and lots of firepower, but can't use it effectively. |

Up close, this Kintaro's a monster.
18 SRMs can inflict a world of hurt on ligther Mechs anytime and even heavier ones should balk at the thought.
However, its going to have to close in first and the armour is just barely enough for it to do so. The LRM-5 is basically jsut to spit int the opponents face while you close in to deliver the real deal |

This mech reminds the lights why they aren't allowed into his supply depot.
Basically a guard mech, as its ammo bins are a little light to be going campagning, but its still pretty good for what it tries.
A raid involving Panthers or something ranged as well as light would leave the Kintaro no hope though. |
