Overview:
In the late 3140’s, in an attempt to make the most of their industrial output, Clan
Hell’s Horses’ leadership directed their scientists and technicians to revisit the many
older OmniMech designs they were still constructing, and determine what measures could be
implemented to make them more effective. When examining the vintage Gargoyle 80 ton
OmniMech, it was determined that most configurations did not utilize the vast amount of heat
dissipation afforded by the built-in heat sink system of that design, and the lack of
endo-steel internals also limited its payload. Alleviating these two constraints nearly
doubled the payload of the machine, making the resulting machine truly deadly on the
battlefield.
Capabilities:
Alternate Configuration J is a design engineered for battlefield endurance. Its primary
weapons are a pair of extended-range PPC’s, a typical configuration for many Battle and
OmniMechs on the modern battlefields. Backing these hard-hitting weapons are a pair of
extended-range medium lasers and ten extended-range small lasers. Combined, these lasers
generate as much heat as the PPC’s, but can impact a target for more than twice those
weapons’ damage. 6 extra double heat sinks can handle the heat from either the particle
cannons or the lasers, but not both at the same time. The arms also each have a short-range
missile launcher, and both racks share a single ton of missile reloads kept in a center
torso ammo bay protected by advanced CASE systems. Although this does not appear to further
the goal of battlefield endurance, these launchers utilize Streak technology, meaning they
do not fire without an assured target lock. Finally, an ECM system has been fitted in the
machine’s head.
