Overview:
Its been said that a protomech could accurately mimic the capabilities of an old style Wasp
or Stinger. The Vespoid was created to achieve that goal.
Capabilities:
One would think that matching the capabilities of a mech with an XL engine just wouldn't
work. Which really just goes to show how good Clan missile launchers really are. In this
case the Stinger 5T mounts twin MML-3s. Its capable of sending 6 LRMs down range, or it
can double its firepower at short range. So can the Vespoid S5T. The only concession is
less ammo, and much weaker armor. But, at least the ammo bins can carry a variety of
munitions unlike the Stinger.
Deployment:
Despite being formally designed, and that battle history to consider, there are no plans to
actually produce Vespoids. Their mobility or firepower is below the thresholds useful in
modern combat.
Variants:
Just how many Wasps and Stingers are there? The modern ones built or rebuilt to keep up
with modern combat are likely out of reach, but even now the majority of the ones in use are
based on star league era models.
