No fluff yet. Working on it. Think of it as a cheaper alternative to the Ajax.
I'm looking for suggestions so as to perfect the design, so two questions. First, do you have any suggestions for more configurations? Second, is the spreading of weapons a good idea, or should I focus more of my firepower forward? I'm having trouble deciding it, as there are arguments both ways.

Go for the spreading of weapons. In the way that an assault 'mechs arms protect if from side attacks (because it can't turn very fast), you'll need something to protect you from getting flanked. Having one light on one side and another light on the other, with a heavy to the front is a bad situation for any tanker, but having side-mounted weapons will help ease the pain.

Yes, I've been coming around to that. I just ran it in MegaMek, and got immoblized by the enemy 'Mech. It came up behind me and got splattered by the AC/20, but the rear weapons helped. Of course, I only had 5 armor left to the rear...

Interesting. What about some fire-support variant. This is just first thing that struck me:
turret: 3 LRM-15s + AIV and ER large laser
body: 7 tons of LRM ammo, 2 more HSs and C3 slave.
If used from well fortified position, this may be quite dangerous.

| i usually mount streak SRM6s on the sides and maybe the rear if i can afford it. They are usually enough to keep most people honest and at arms length.

Mixing up the facings of the weapons is a good idea, it keeps the enemy from finding a blind spot on the vheicle and also allows you the chance to get more targets to fire at.

In all honesty I've had better luck concentrtating my heavier weapons in the turret. It allows me to fire my main barrage in any arc I want to. Sneak up behind me? Swing turet and alpha strike him. To either side? Swing turret around and alpha strike him. On the config with the trio of MG's I'd put them in each arc BUT your front. Also I do that with SRM-2's. Medium pulses are also good for it. The side and rear mounted weapons are generally used by me for infantry attacking. The turret mounted weapons can handle the front which is where I'll generally keep my enemies.
