Total Cost: 1,666,667 C-Bills
Battle Value: 539
Movement Type: Hover
Power Plant: GM 10 XL
Cruising Speed: 32.4 kph
Maximum Speed: 54 kph
Armor: Durallex Extra Light Heavy Ferro-Fibrous with CASE
Armament:
1 GM Urban Hunter Autocannon/20
1 Holly SideWinder - Six Rack SRM 6
1 Sperry Browning Machine Gun
Manufacturer: Arcturan Arms, Earthwerks-FWL, Inc., General Motors
Primary Factory: Arcturus (AA), Keystone (EFWLI), New Valencia (GM)
Communications: Dalban Micronics
Targeting & Tracking: Brightstar 17 Mk. II
================================================================================================
Overview:
Designed to be a relatively cheap hover tank destroyer for use in urban environments, the
UrbanHunter was designed by General Motors with a similar role in mind to the venerable
UrbanMech: ambushing enemies with a massive weapon in the concrete jungles across the Inner
Sphere. While originally commissioned for the Federated Suns in 3071 for guerilla warfare
against the dreaded word of Blake, it would spread to the Lyran Commonwealth and the Free
Worlds League as well.
(Art source)
Capabilities:
Perhaps the most infamous attribute of the UrbanHunter is its vastly underpowered GM 10 XL
engine; the chassis is clearly designed to be able to accept much bigger engines, but
perhaps because its expected environment would make such speed useless or even dangerous (or
just to ensure it can be sold for cheap) General Motors chose such a weak fusion reactor. As
a result it has a very slow top speed for a hovercraft, and has trouble accelerating. It
also uses 3.5 tons of Durallex Extra Light Heavy Ferro-Fibrous armor for its plating,
leaving it lightly armored so it can fit its heavy main weapon.
Said main weapon is a GM Urban Hunter AC/20 with 4 tons of ammunition, capable of destroying
enemy armor in a single shot provided lady luck is on its side. It also has a swivel-mount
Sperry Browning Machine Gun with a half ton of ammo, used to thwart infantry trying to
disable it before it can strike its intended prey, and a Holly Sidewinder Six-Rack SRM 6
loaded with a single ton of missiles for dealing with lighter targets. All ammunition for
its various weapons are protected by CASE to compensate for the light armor.
The UrbanHunter thus, as designed, works best as an ambush hunter against heavier 'Mechs
that can't react in time to avoid the massive cannon and don't have advanced sensor suites.
Since it can accept better engines, GM also provides expensive but useful engine upgrade
kits to make it a rapidly-moving striker for more open battlefields.
DESIGN QUIRKS: Narrow/Low Profile, Poor Performance
Deployment:
The UrbanHunter would see the majority of its early action in the Jihad, typically lying in
ambush to destroy advanced Blakist 'Mechs when they least expected it as head-on tactics
were often not viable against such a technologically superior foe.
Variants:
UB-1Tr - An officially-supported refit that installs a much more powerful fusion engine,
converting it from an urban combat ambusher to a rapidly-moving heavy striker at the cost of
being significantly more expensive.
UB-1S - A Lyran Commonwealth version that uses a Heavy Gauss Rifle for additional damage.

Why not use a standard fusion core or better yet, an ICE engine to make it even cheaper? On a hovercraft, with an engine that small, it makes no difference other than cost.
Edit: also, why the choice of the SRM-6 mounted so that it can only fire in the left arc? Why. It mount it in the front or the turret? It won’t make the latter any heavier, and in the case of the former, at least you could fire both the AC and the SRM’s at the same target at the same time.
Edit 2: making the design an ICE engine-powered vehicle with the missile launcher in the turret, it is less than 1.425 million C-bills.

Would make it overweight if I used internal combustion. The SRM-6 being limited is art accuracy, as is there being a turret just for a MG.
A fuel cell would work though.

Hmm. Seems you’re right on the ICE. Didn’t realize that and didn’t try it out myself before suggesting it.
As to the SRM location, looked at your design in the designer program so I could see the picture (wish they posted with the design in the designer program board). Even though the missile “launcher” is located on the left side of the vehicle, the missiles themselves look to launch forward.
Therefore, the SRM-6 can (should?) be located in the front arc.
In BTech vehicle designs, the mounting location/arc is all about which direction that weapon can be fired into, not where it is necessarily located on the vehicle. Stuff that’s in the front arc fires forward, whether or not it’s on the front, sides or rear of the vehicle. If it launches to the rear, it’s on the rear arc, whether or not it’s physically mounted on the front, the back or to the sides.
And so on.
Note: turrets are the big turret and can be rotated in any direction. There is also the option, if you go sufficiently high tech and time period, to use sponson turrets, which, IIRC, do not have 360 degrees of fire, but just the arc you’re on and the two to 90 degrees from that arc (right sponson turret weapons can fire front, right and rear as an example).

Check the heat sinks.
A 10 rated standard engine is .5 tons. Anything short of an xl engine would weight 1 ton on a vehicle. That is well below the floor of 10 tons on a hovercraft.
But if you switch from fusion to ICE on mordel the heat sinks are retained and weight 10 tons.
Side arcs are rarely used, but do have a place if your goal is to circle a target while firing. Only thing I can think of that uses that strategy stock is a Karnov with a side mounted AC20.

*facepalm*
Somehow forgot to verify the heat sinks when checking engine mass.
Knew that a type 10 ICE should have been ok.
